The upstream author of SWIG introduced a change that addressed this issue (commit 2066f344 [1]). For more context, see issue #3537 [2].

So, please, do not forward the part of the patch involving Xdmf.i to the upstream authors of xdmf, since this is fixed in SWIG.

On the other hand, the part of the patch involving core/XdmfCore.i must be forwarded upstream.
