If I understand correctly, this is the cleaner solution to the problem described in #22442. If Cython 0.25 doesn't apply the patch, we can probably work around it in Debian with patches similar to the one I did in #22442#comment:13.

That said, there was a 0.26 milestone tag just added, so perhaps we can get it backported into Debian.

As for the second patch, if we can't get this backported to 0.25 in Debian we can also just revert commit 0c0c6034c220f2658cf8b6b1512e11720d956c1e in Sage.
