I don't whether or not you are accepting this fact. I just wanted to 
point out that the policy of Sage isn't likely to change in this regard. 
Note that I cannot speak for all Sage developers, I am just giving my 
personal opinion.

Most Sage devs are volunteers too, so we are in the same boat.

Anyway, to return back to the topic: I think that Sage would be happy to 
help with packaging for Debian (we did that before with Gentoo), but not 
if it negatively affects Sage itself.
