It appears that atomic_write is not involved:
I was confused by the fact the test-command runs several gap sessions that log to the same file, hence the confusion.
If to each processed gap session is associated a specific log file, the issue remain but atomic_write appears not involved.

Let open an other front:
my understanding is that six files are generated, why obsolete six files are still around ?
