This reverts commit ab1e878c9cdcd66744fe66bb619670d17de96a71.

See ff6a36c991533cea142e7ddeff6bdb69806093c0 .

There is pending confirmation from maintainer if issue is still
considered sufficiently fixed with the non-upstream patch.
