The package is *not* abandoned upstream. The latest version is
trang-20081028. It does not have a build system for gcj, but the
.jar file should be sufficient for use with java. So, there are
several possibilities:

* Use the new version with a java dependency (that's better than
nothing, at least as a temporary fix).

* Use the old version (it was working in the past with Debian, and
I'm using it with java under Mac OS X without any problem).

* Port the build system to the new version.
