Although you say, "<date> does not obey language setting", I think you
need to put date as "<date>Jan 1, 2008</date>".  Did you get date with
"<date>"?

If I do "<date>2008-01-01</date>", it should obey.

I do not understand what is the bug.

I do not think this tag has any efects anyway for existing formatting.
