No, tests are not run when using the setup.py script and to, be honest, 
I didn't want to waste my time hacking a dh_auto_test rule because the 
way test data are handled upstream is going to change anyway.
I prefer spending my time on the upstream code than on debian/rules hacking.

I didn't know that! It is really getting easier to package stuff!
Anyway, after playing a bit with this "orig-component.tar.gz" approach, 
I think it would require too much hacking for something that will most 
likely become useless in the next upstream releases.
