For a team maintained package, I don't have strong preferences.

The main goal (imo) should be to have the repo in a consistent state,
which does not imply linear history.

So, if you can sort out the salsa repo to be consistent and fix the
pending RC bugs, in whatever way which is acceptable for you, please
do so. I prefer that you care about this as the usual uploader.
