Waiting for Dererk to reply, here what I can say.

The situation has not changed so much, according to the upstream News
section:

  <http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/fprint>

  News

  * 2008-11-23: Bastien Nocera has been doing a lot of work on fprintd
    and has put out a request for testing in Fedora.

Please note, however, that the mailing list as well as the Git
repositories are still active:

  <http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/fprint/>
  <http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libfprint/libfprint/>
  <http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libfprint/fprintd/>

So, basically, we should move to fprintd (and pam-fprintd). When this
will happen, however, is still unknown. If needed, I am all in favor of
a complete removal of pam-fprint.

Thx, bye,
Gismo / Luca
