Hi Michele, and thanks for your bugreport,

Given that fprintd is accessible trough dbus (that's what pam-fprintd
does for example), I think it's rather a bug of gnome-keyring that lacks
the ability to talk to fprintd trough dbus; re-assigning there for
discussion.

That said, I note that the Fedora (where the work to integrate fprintd
was initially done) wiki page about fprintd has the following sentence:
