Awesome!
Eben Moglen in his seminal talk 'Freedom in the Cloud' (the
inspiration behind FB) suggested building 'The Debian GNU Linux Social
Networking Stack'. He also mentions Ubuntu
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOEMv0S8AcA#t=40m45s
Having rewatched the vid here's the items he mentions needs to built:
A Couple of USB Ports -> done USB2 (we want USB3, right?)
Wifi -> Done
Keeps the Logs -> done
Bring Itself Up -> done
Web Server -> suggest apache is doable
Microblog -> GNU Social / status.net (I think application platform is
also implied here)
Collect Your Stuff from Social Networks -> need to build 'drivers' for
this, OStatus, APIs, FB Download etc.
Find your Friends -> Suggest FOAF/HTML5, also Portable Contacts
Locks it Down -> I guess this is encryption / PKI, secure file stores
Register Dynamic DNS -> ???
Send Encrypted Backup to Friends -> To be built
Automatic Updates -> to be built
Also Mentioned
RSS
VPN
Tor Router
Bittorrent Client
