More at issue is the ability of protesters to use their mobile devices
to provide live-stream documentation of illegal actions performed by
security forces.

For example, recently the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)
launched a mobile app enabling citizens to upload audio-visual
documentation of illegal "stop-and-frisks", police violence, and
police misconduct. The patent described in the article I posted would
defeat that app.

One case in which the New York Police Department was recently
embarrassed was during a social-activism event organized by a cycling
group called "Times Up!" during which a cyclist claimed he had been
assaulted and battered by a police officer. The police arrested the
cyclist on criminal charges. Only because a bystander had
video-documented the event was the cyclist exxonerated (and awarded a
civil settlement, and had the police officer fired).
