Given that the planned freedombox do not have a screen, I am not sure
if network-manager will affect user friendlyness at all.

How, given the idea of a self contained web administrated server,
would NM make it simpler for non-experts?

I have no idea.
But I am sure we should try to make sure the freedombox get IP address
when it is plugged into the network, and not depend on the network
being available at boot time. Using network-manager could solve it.
Adding a udev rule could too. Not sure what I prefer. NM seem
overkill to implement such feature, but I have not measured its RAM
and CPU use.
