You don't need to change the makefile, you can just run:

    make DEVICE=/dev/sdf plugserver-image

Nice work, finding that.  You shouldn't change that line, as it makes
sure that you don't accidentally make your hosting system unbootable.

The vfat partition is the first partition on the device, which is
mounted to /media/freedom/boot - See the FM readme, line 313 for details:
