Well, I found out. I was looking at /var/lib/radicale/collections/<user>
and there was another directory tree under
/var/lib/radicale/collections/collection-root/<user>

I deleted the offending entries and the error messages disappeared.

In the new directory structure I had to manually edit every entry that
didn't have an FN: field and added one, usually to duplicate the N:
field contents, sometimes I left it blank. After all the offending
entries/files were corrected, the errors disappeared and radicale is
working again.

So, probably a case of very old addressbook and calendar entries, some
of which were from Palm Pilot days.

Augustine.
