I think that the problem is larger than certain old entries and how
they're handled by Korganizer/Akonadi. The phone is also not able to
synchronize, and the phone claims it's "A server ERROR". I've been
looking at the phone end of things and it's going to be a major pain to
upgrade that end. DAVDroid 1.9-ose (the version that fails) has
apparently been superceded by DAVx, but that version requires Android
4.4 at least and I m runing Cyanogenmod 10.1 (Android 4.2.2). Before
upgrading to Cyanogenmod 11 (Android 4.4.4) I want to backup my user
data but the phone FS is encrypted and backup from recovery fails. I'm
still working on how to reverse the encryption so I can do a backup and
then upgrade, but it seems that the failure mode of radicale is
preventing any updates at all. I've tried adding addressbook entries
and they don't get posted to the server, I've tried new events and they
don't get posted to the server. It seems it's failing at first contact
and kicking me out right away. If it's just a date issue on old
entries, would getting rid of old events solve the problem? But I
suspect that operation would also fail at first contact. The
Korganizer/Akonadi that fails is from a Debian stable computer, totally
up-to-date, so while the phone issue could be blamed on the old version
of DAVDroid, the Debian (9.8/stabe) system is totally up-to-date.

Thanks for replying. Is there anything specific I could try to narrow
this down? Is radicale being looked at? It seems that a softer error,
like pointing out what entries are causing the problem (if it's a matter
of old dates) and still allowing the new entries to be handled would be
much better.
