AFAIK, Matrix does two types of communication as follows:

One is for clients to connect to the matrix server. This happens on
https://<domain>/_matrix/ . This communication will work okay with Pagekite.

The other communication is for federating with other matrix servers.
Federation is required when you want multiple users across different
servers to join the same room. This communication happens on 8448 port
and as far as I know won't work with pagekite, especially pagekite.net.
Since that port also uses https, it should be possible for pagekite to
support it using SNI. If you are using your own pagekite frontend you
might be able to configure pagekite to work for this.
