Sorry to hear the the firmware upgrade to UEFI is not an easy path. We 
are left with two options:

1) Install FreedomBox Bookworm image[1]. And perform a distribution 
upgrade on it before restoring your backup. This path should work well.

2) Get a Debian Trixie image for the APU (not sure how since you don't 
have a monitor connected) and then install freedombox package on it.

If these two don't work out and if more people need BIOS support from 
the FreedomBox Trixie image, I will consider building and publishing one.
