It must have been connected to the fact that httpredir had chosen a mirror with bad files for the last 2 weeks. I managed to get the update done today, updated to Plinth 0.8.1, and everything works fine again. I am actually considering to replace httpredir by the fixed mirror I am using on my main computer. There have never been any problems.<BR>

i can't help you with plith, but you might want to have a look in
/var/log/plinth, and take a look at the log file.
The apt errors usually are caused by outdated mirrors, or mirrors with
broken files. Try a different mirror.
You might want to think about using httpredir, see:
<A HREF="http://httpredir.debian.org/">http://httpredir.debian.org/</A>
for more information on how to do that.
Be aware however, httpredir seems not to use ssl-encrypted connections,
so in my opinion, it's a good idea to tunnel apt through tor when using
httpredir.
