Hello Peter.

smbios is supposed to be used automatically on x86 solaris (on global 
zone, at least), see 
FusionInventory::Agent::Task::Inventory::Solaris::Bios for details. 
However, that's not 'instead of' dmidecode, but 'in addition to'. You 
can run the agent with debug level 2 to check every command called.

Anyway, what problem are you trying to fix exactly ?
