Did it work before my patch, or has it "always" been acting up on you?

Does upsc notice that the UPS is on battery? To be more specific, 
ups.status should go (from docs/new-drivers.txt):
  OL     - On line
  OB     - On battery (inverter is providing load power)
  LB     - Low battery

If those shows up appropriately, the driver seems to do its work.
