interesting though I've not had time to investigate more.
I've just added a new entry on the client projects page.

in theory, we have the ambient.* collection (check 
http://eu1.networkupstools.org/doc/2.0.1/new-names.html)
to report such data. And the apcsmart driver seems to support the ambient 
data.
So, so the problem might sit in the sensor data acquisition.
But I'm not the right person to follow up. Maybe some other NUT developers 
will be able to...
