I am all for a new release, although for consistency it might be good
to build from the release tag in SVN.

I know that "make distcheck" is going to ensure that we have added all
the relevant files to Makefile.am, but checking out and building from
a tag ensures that everything has been added to SVN, and you aren't
relying on local uncommitted files.
