If this was a replacement deal, you may have a tech that used the cable from
the old UPS.

Ok, i raised the permissions to 0660 and did the following...

root at mail:/dev# /usr/local/ups/bin/powermust -DDDDD -a SquareOne

debug level is '5'
Mustek PowerMust UPS, or compatible, not detected.

Looking at this, I'd say that there's nothing on the other end of the 
cable...
I can only assume that there is either a problem with the UPS, or the 
techy hasn't plugged it in properly.

I will have to make a plan to go to the client myself.
