There seem to be a permission problem when using the nut-usb package :

MacMini:~ did$ sudo newhidups auto
Password:
Network UPS Tools: New USB/HID UPS driver 0.28 (2.0.4)

Detected a UPS: Cyber Power System/CPS RS232 USB BRIDGE for UPS
Using subdriver: APC/CyberPower HID 0.9
dstate_setflags: base variable (ups.test.result) does not exist
dstate_setflags: base variable (ups.test.result) does not exist
dstate_setflags: base variable (ups.beeper.status) does not exist
dstate_setaux: base variable (ups.beeper.status) does not exist

Fatal error: unable to create listener socket

bind /sw/var/run/ups/newhidups-auto failed: Permission denied

Current user: nobody (UID -2)

Things to try:

 - set different owners or permissions on /sw/var/run/ups

 - run this as some other user (try -u <username>)

Exiting.
