FYI, the above commands are effectively a no-op...

...because we disable the kernel HID driver for the UPS. You may use
'auto' or anything else for the port when using newhidups.

We are currently using libusb for portability, so the appropriate
device node is somewhere in either /dev/bus/usb or /proc/bus/usb (on
older systems).
