since it was using usbfs I had a random thought of checking the
mount/etc tools which ome from the util-linux rpm. for whatever reason
upgrading from the core fc3 pkg util-linux-2.12a-16.i386.rpm to the
pkg in the updates repository of util-linux-2.12a-24.5.i386.rpm seems
to have fixed something. after upgrading and removing then replacing
the usb cable to make sure everything sorta resync'd and voila .. now
starting ups/upsd/upsmon syslog looks perfect.
weird. so hope this helps someone. sorry for all the bothersome
messages. and thanks for some really great software.
