[Nut-upsuser] Bogus "UPS not available" messages

Most likely permission problems ... again.
The thing is that if you want to use your own driver you have to previously
detach kernel driver. Not everybody can do that. You just need to fix the
permissions.
Also, run driver as root. If you run it as a regular user it won't switch to
nut:nut.
