That's the problem.  It shows the drivers are running and I can't kill
them but they don't show up in ps aux.  I get the following:
gentoo mystified # /etc/init.d/upsdrv restart
   * Stopping UPS drivers ...
Network UPS Tools - UPS driver controller 2.2.2
Can't open /var/lib/nut/tripplite-ups-auto.pid: No such file or directory
   * Failed to stop UPS drivers!

I can't find anything in syslog.  The problem is that on the gentoo forum
almost no one uses nut.  They use another program.  With my old ups I got
help from a nut developer who was a gentoo user.
