The C code which reads "override.*" variables is drivers/main.c

Or did you mean which configuration file? ups.conf: http://www.networkupstools.org/docs/man/ups.conf.html

Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the rest of the driver - perhaps someone else can comment on recommended values.
