Yes, I have an APC too, APC pin out is weird non standard, I soldered
up my own special cable adapter years back if he (grumpy at mailfence.com
cc'd) just connected some serial adapter to APC, that would Not
work, & might be cause of his shutdown,

grumpy at mailfence.com should first make up an adapter with a male &
female, to adapt from APC to standard, that can then be added to
whatever else is used/ tried beyond.
