Greetings,

I am writing to consult about an issue I've encountered over the past few days - One which I've come to understand possibly stems from a flaw within the way NUT implements its instant commands via SNMP.

I will preface this by saying that my configuration is using hardware that is not officially supported
( It's a Makelsan-branded UPS, of the 'Powerpack-SE' Series with an external 'iStars mini' SNMP card. ),
but I believe this issue is common to all hardware that abides by RFC-1628 controlled using the snmp-ups driver.
My reasoning for this is SNMP packet inspection of NUT's output, compared to that of an 'iStars' proprietary control software, which actually succeeds in getting the hardware to react as expected:

[NUT upscmd, starting a self-test. Fails to start the self-test.]
variable-bindings:
1.3.6.1.2.1.33.1.7.1.0: 0

[iStars proprietary control program, starting self-test. Starts the self-test.]
variable-bindings:
1.3.6.1.2.1.33.1.7.1.0: 1.3.6.1.2.1.33.1.7.7.4

According to some MIB descriptions<https://circitor.fr/Mibs/Html/UPS-MIB.php> I found online, the NUT implementation only sends a 'header' object identifier that prefaces all ups tests, while the proprietary method also includes the specific type of test to perform.
I believe this is because the 'upscmd' program is unable to pass values to it's commands that include non-alphanumerical symbols, like periods, as attempting to manually pass a value like '1.3.6.1.2.1.33.1.7.7.4' to the self-test command always fails.

All of this stems from my speculation. I'm not well-accustomed to this toolkit to create a bug report in full confidence.
Any help with this matter is much appreciated, and if this issue is still somehow isolated to only this unsupported manufacturer, I apologize for any confusion.

Kind regards,
P.
