Could it be that the server only supports SSLv2 (which is insecure) or
so? It obviously tries to start the starttls() negotiation (which is
good), but it doesn't succeed (which is bad :-().

Sorry, I can't make head or tails out of SSL error messages, they
are usually just very opaque and not clear.
