Cannot use gmail as a local repo?

You can setup gmail as a local IMAP repository, it will just treat gmail
as a regular imap server which should be fine in your case.
The gmail speciality comes from e.g. deleting stuff (deleting a mail
From a folder will simply remove the corresponding tag in gmail and keep
the mail in "all mails". I am not sure how gmail will respond when you
upload a mail with several tags to multiple folders (ie if you will get
duplicates or if it will recognize them as duplicates of the same mail).
