I think you did make sense, at least I think I understood.
Seems to be not as easy to solve, as I had hoped we could use the
"system certificates", but that would mean having to adjust
offlineimap to run on linux/unix/... and point to the right
certificates on each system.
And relying on the user having a recent FF/IE/... installed is
probably not a good way to go.
