speed up sync?

All,

I'm syncing a very, very large remote mailbox. When I first begin the
sync things move quite quickly as there are multiple threads involved
grabbing from the various remote mailboxes.

Unfortunately, the several _large_ mailboxes that I have (40k+ emails)
take a long time for a single thread to tackle. Is there any way for
multiple threads to download from the same mailbox to save time?
