Migration to sqlite backend: Cannot operate on a closed database

I just tried to move from the plain text database to the sqlite
one. According to https://linux.die.net/man/1/offlineimap, I just added
the status_backend = sqlite to the "Account" section. The
LocalStatus-sqlite directory was created but with each call to
offlineimap, I get a "Cannot operate on a closed databse" error
message. Any idea what's causing this ?
