neither is yours - pointing fingers is never constructive.

to the issue at hand:

  * at debconf, we formalized a team of people doing the work in
    debian[0].
  * this team does not use gbp.
  * we decided that we want to declutter/streamline/simplify
the debian packaging and harmonizing it over all ~300 packages,
hence the gbp.conf snipped was removed.
  * invidual people using gbp are welcome to configure it in their
    dotfiles.
  * rational being that, just as we don't carry any dotfiles for e.g.
texteditors, as long as the team does not by the majority use a
specific tool, these sort things are up to the choice of the
invidiual contributor. same goes for the tool-to-build-the-package
(regardless of it being a lower-level tool like pbuilder or sbuild,
or a higher-level tool like gbp).

to both "sides" of people:

  * let's be welcoming to everyone, unconditionally.
  * let's be welcomeable-by-others by working together.

Thanks,
Daniel

[0] yes, I had a long "catch-up" after debconf at work with a couple of
unforseen delays. I'm behind things on my todo for debian-openstack, but
starting to work it down this week, finally.
