This sounds new to me. BSD code is GPL-compatible, and it is being merged in
lots of GNU projects (I can find examples if you like).
Is this about copyright assignment? If this is so, I recall exceptions being
made in the case of code to support other OSes. I don't have a reference right
now but I could dig it up if you want.
Besides, if we're talking about:
+/* XXX code from /usr/src/lib/libdisk/disk.c */
How about -ldisk ?
+/* XXX code from /usr/src/sbin/mount/mount.c:getmntpt() */
I suspect there's a portable version of this function with FSF-owned copyright,
somewhere (maybe Glibc or Gnulib).
