Here's my proposed roadmap for 1.7.
Please think about taking up one of those items, I'd like to release
rc1 by the end of this month, at the latest.
GNU Parted 1.7 Roadmap
======================
Square brackets [] denote assigments.
Curly braces {} are notes.
Asterisk (*) denotes items that do not require special skills.
library
-------
- check out which parts (fs, labels) can support block sizes != 512 (*)and
give sentinels to the others
- check code for stuff that isn't compatible with new logical block
sizes
- use EDD (need someone who can give sample output)
- support physical sector sizes (init, constraint)
at least by putting first GPT partition to 128bk [Leslie] (*)
- check new GPT code {this is probably already done by releasing release
candidates}
- alloc'ed 97 + 420 bytes for pth {this is too much, it should be 512}
(*)
- resolve compile information in Makefile instead of configure.ac (*)
- fix device mapper issue [Leslie, tentatively] (*)
- add block sizes for hfs, jfs, swap, ntfs, reiserfs, ufs, xfs
verify for ext2/3 (*)
- fix compile problems {needs to be done by someone experiencing this
problem} (*)
- get rid of copyright preamble and introduce "version" command [Anant]
(*)
- introduce "devel" branch in freshmeat [Leslie/Otavio] {on release of
rc1}
frontend
--------
- change bug report message: refer to web site! [Leslie, if no one else
volunteers] {the instructions proved to change quickly, so a referral
to the site is appropriate} (*)
- immediately fail when specific commands require a partition and
none is there (commands affected: rescue, resize, mkfs, check, cp,
move, name, rm) (*)
- toggle automatically on "set" (*)
- new formatting engine (long numbers break fragile tabs) [Leslie]
- constraint solver fix: "the closest parted can manage..." [Leslie,
tentatively]
- exception system supporting data piggyback (union or void* w/ magic)
{maybe we need this for the previous item} (*)
- support CTRL-C in exception handler (cancel/exit) (*)
- auto-choose partition if only one on disk (*)
- "print all" command [Anant] (*)
docs
----
- rewrite manual
The API migration can wait a bit until after 1.7.
Cheers,
~ Leslie
