If I had READ THE PATCH more closely, I would have noticed the conditioning
on the msdos label:

        if (!(part->type & PED_PARTITION_METADATA)
            && strcmp (disk->type->name, "msdos") == 0) {

This clearly doesn't effect GPT labels.
