Hello list

This is basically the same patch set as previously posted, with all the
corrections and comments addressed.  Also note that this patchset does
not contain the XFS test patches, It does not contain Petr's patches for
MBR in extended partitions.  It does not contain the PMBR/GTP patch (I
posted that on the next branch).  Additionally I have added a distckeck
patch that I needed to successfully run `make distcheck` on my
environment.

Any further review is appreciated.
