[parted-devel] t-lvm.sh vs lvm-utils.sh

I'm confused by these two files.  It appears that they are mostly duplicates but the latter has a few extra functions and is only included when you require() it.  Shouldn't they be merged?  Also, why do they set up a private root dir to hold their own lvm.conf and dev nodes?
