This is partman's fault; bypassing it, creating everything manually
(PITA), and continuing with the debootstrap stage, then writing the
fstab myself, works fine.

OTOH, after partman does its thing, parted will display a 'loop'
disklabel for that particular drive; doing a mklabel sun after that
seems to persist, however, and by hijacking partman I was able to
bootstrap a sparc32/LVM system.
