Package: parted
Version: 1.8.8

This refers to the package "parted-1.8.8.tar" built under Fedora-8
(uname reports: "Linux x.y.z 2.6.23.8-63.fc8 #1 SMP Wed Nov 21
17:56:40 EST 2007 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux") running on an
IBM e326 dual-Opteron server connected to a Promise RAID with two
5TB arrays, one of which is shown below as /dev/sdc).

The same error is obtained using the versions of "parted" that
have been distributed with Fedora-8.

Here is an example of the error:

   # ./parted GNU Parted 1.8.8 Using /dev/sda Welcome to GNU Parted!
Type 'help' to view a list of commands. (parted) select /dev/sdc
Using /dev/sdc (parted) print Error: /dev/sdc: unrecognised disk
   label (parted) version

   GNU Parted 1.8.8

   (parted) quit

FWIW, the "fdisk" command yields the following:

   # /sbin/fdisk -l /dev/sdc Note: sector size is 2048 (not 512)

   Disk /dev/sdc: 4999.3 GB, 4999340359680 bytes 255 heads, 63
   sectors/track, 151950 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 *
   2048 = 32901120 bytes Disk identifier: 0x00000000

Disk /dev/sdc doesn't contain a valid partition table
