Bug#841076: Encode::* and enc2xs -C

Hi Dan,
in Debian, we have received a request to run 'enc2xs -C' after
installation of Encode::HanExtra (any Encode::*, really) so that
applications can make use of all installed encodings without worrying
too much about which are available and which may be required by any of
the modules the application depends upon.
We think this is a reasonable request and we've started to discuss how
to implement this at
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=841076
However, we wanted to ask you about your thoughts on running 'enc2xs -C'
on every (de-)installation of any Encode::* module. Is that a sensible
thing to do in all circumstances, on all machines running Debian as part
of the system Perl installation? We notice that 'enc2xs -C' is not run
as part of the installation of Encode itself, and the documentation
doesn't really sound like it's something every user of Encode should
know about and use?
Thank you for any insight on the status of 'enc2xs -C' you might like to
share.
Florian
