Where else would it be? It's the contents of the chroot, so the root
directory of the chroot needs to be the root of the tarball. But I guess
adding a line or two to the manual page would be good. Done in svn.

Doing that transparently is too much black magic. Having an option for
it would be possible, but is it really going to useful? I don't think so
myself.
