I think it should have been filing as serious from the beginning, and with the 
same reason used for raising the severity now: it makes the package fail to 
install, which by definition of the release team makes it to buggy to release.

Asking the maintainers if they plan and upload, need a sponsor or other help 
for that and/or are fine with this an NMU would be the next steps.. :)
