I just tried this on wheezy ... but excluding the xvfb change
* the missing dev_off() causes a "too many open devices" error after
some time
* but besides that everything looked fine and worked with unset DISPLAY

So I tried to properly use a noninteractive png device, this works too,
but there is too much white border around the bars, making the plot very
bright. This is probably a task for someone who knows R. You can find my
approach in preview/rpy2.
